Apparently our church parking lot, which we lease from the Baptist Church, is / was part of a cemetery known as the 'DeForest family' cemetery. On at least two occasions in the past, people doing genealogy research have come to the church inquiring about the cemetery. I spoke to Doris Diedrick, a long time resident of Dover Plains, to ask if she had any knowledge of this. Ms. Diedrick stated she remembers the old cemetery and that her father, Mr. Hufcutt, the local funeral director, removed (only) the headstones in the mid 1950s because of vandalism and took them to Valley View cemetery .
